The Second Annual Billboard Country Music Summit, in association with the Country Music Association, will take place Monday – Tuesday, June 6-7 in Nashville. Like last year, the Summit will kick off activities leading up to the annual CMA Music Festival, which will be held June 9-12 in Nashville and celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
The two-day event will feature panel discussions, case studies and keynote interviews, as well as artist showcases and networking opportunities. Programming will focus on the most important issues affecting artists, songwriters, managers, agents, promoters, label executives, music publishers, radio programmers and all those closely associated with the Country Music business. Panels and round tables will include “Content Creation in the New Digital Marketplace,” Why Country Radio Thrives While Other Formats Fight for Their Lives,” “Touring Saturation: Are We There Yet?” and “New Business Models Under a Microscope.” Other sessions will examine digital marketing and sponsorship/branding initiatives. New Docu-Series Follows Legendary Mother-Daughter Duo On Their Reunion Concert Tour
For the first time on television, Judds fans and OWN viewers enter the private and public lives of country music icons, Naomi and Wynonna Judd, on the new docu-series, “The Judds.” The six-episode series follows the award winning mother/daughter duo as they hit the road for their first and final concert tour in ten years. Cameras capture their emotional journey as they work to heal their relationship, reconnect with their fans and share the spotlight once again. “The Judds” premieres April 10 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
After decades of struggle and recovery, Naomi and Wynonna are ready to share their celebrated and often complicated lives. The series begins as both mother and daughter prepare for their final reunion tour. It was recently announced that the legendary Ricky Skaggs has been nominated for the 42nd Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. Skaggs will be competing in the Country Album of the Year category for Mosaic. Gordon Kennedy and Skaggs Family Records also received a nomination for their work on the album as producer and record label, respectively. “I’m very excited about the Dove nomination,” says Skaggs, “Mosaic is a project that is near and dear to my heart. It seems to have a life all its own. I believe it will continue touching lives for years to come.”
Mosaic was released in August of 2010 and is Skaggs’ return to a full band sound, a style that made him one of the best-selling artists in country music history. He worked closely with fellow GRAMMY winner Gordon Kennedy to create an album with music and lyrics that speak to Skaggs’ faith, making “music that is in my head and in my heart,” says Skaggs. The Oak Ridge Boys have won a total of 9 Dove Awards throughout their career and they are looking to add to that number in 2011. It was recently announced that the Oak Ridge Boys received 3 nominations for this year’s 42nd Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, including: Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year, “Live With Jesus”, Country Recorded Song of the Year, “God’s Gonna Ease My Troublin’ Mind” and Long Form Music Video of the Year, An Inconvenient Christmas.
“The GMA has been so very good to The Oak Ridge Boys,” said group member Joe Bonsall. “On every show we try to sing some Gospel songs and take the time to remind our audience where our roots and heritage reside. GRAMMY nominee and country music icon Marty Stuart will celebrate 10 years of his annual LATE NIGHT JAM on June 8 beginning at 10:00 PM at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. Stuart started the CMA sponsored event as a way to welcome fans to country music’s biggest week, and over the past 10 years it has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for MusiCares and has become the kick off event for CMA Music Fest.

NASHVILLE – The iconic CMA Music Festival will celebrate its 40th anniversary when it takes over the Downtown Nashville campus for four days this summer, Thursday-Sunday, June 9-12, 2011. The event that USA Today calls “the crown jewel of Country Music festivals” started in 1972 as Fan Fair®. Forty years later, the legendary festival has become Nashville’s signature music event, which annually attracts thousands of fans from all 50 states and around the globe while raising millions of dollars for music education in Metro Nashville Public Schools. 2011 will also mark the eighth consecutive year that CMA Music Festival will be filmed for a network television special, shining a national spotlight on both the Country Music format and “Music City USA.”
The reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Miranda Lambert, Male Vocalist of the Year Blake Shelton, and Vocal Group of the Year Lady Antebellum join Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, The Band Perry, Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Reba, Darius Rucker, and Keith Urban as the first artists announced as performers during the Nightly Concerts at LP Field during CMA Music Festival.
